A river birch in winter can be especially striking. When the mask of leaves has fallen, its warmth and character are revealed against the cold. Though weathered and tattered, it remains strong and vibrant. This river birch was given to me from my boys when they were young, and its presence reminds me of how something planted with love can take root in our lives in ways we never anticipated.
